This video shows how to leverage the power of PowerApps and the capabilities of Microsoft Flow to work with REST APIs. In this case, I will take advantage of NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day open API to show Microsoft Flow in action. The resulting picture's title, URL, and explanation are used to create a nice app to display the latest NASA space picture prowess.

Dynamic Communities User Group Summit – What We Learned and Wanted to Share

$

To briefly summarize Dynamic Communities User Group Summit, a four-day conference with 7,000 attendees, including hundreds of partners, is tough to do. Yet, as we think about the User Group Summit, there are three prevailing themes that come to mind.

Watch our summary from The Payroll Office

MICROSOFT’S MESSAGE: GP ISN’T GOING AWAY

Microsoft’s consistency in its commitment to product lines and surrounding strategy (for two years in a row) was a refreshing change. Typically, we hear an announcement that sends the users, ISVs and partners spinning. We came out of Summit with no major shifts or announcements to the lineup: Dynamics GP isn’t going away and D365 Business Central is building. These are two things in our Payroll world, that we can get behind. This focus will bring stability to partners and customers over the next year.

While D365 Business Central is growing in functionality, enhancements and global customer base, the Dynamics GP user group still remains the largest attended group for this Dynamic Communities event. As we stated, there was some peace this year that people are generally happy with the investment they have made. Microsoft is road mapping GP releases through 2020 with verbiage of 2024 “and beyond.”

In the past year, we at Integrity Data have asked Microsoft Dynamics customers to tell us more about their payroll experiences in our Payroll and Afraid Survey. Of those surveyed, 88% are using GP Payroll, representing an average of 445 employees per organization, less than 4% are outsourcing, only 9% are looking to move off Dynamics GP for their payroll and one organization with 47,000 employees is trying to move to Dynamics GP for their Payroll needs.

The Microsoft Dynamics GP customer base is large, strong, committed and energized. This was demonstrated best in the Dynamics GP general session which highlighted Mike Polino’s stellar presentation of the great, new features and a crowd that is best described using the same, four adjectives. If you haven’t seen the recent updates, check out this blog.

D365 BUSINESS CENTRAL IS THE CHOSEN CLOUD SOLUTION

That being said, Dynamics 365 Business Central has established itself as the Microsoft cloud ERP system for SMB. Last year, we were all looking at each other as if to say, “Uh, hey…you go first, dive in and test the waters. Then, we will follow.” This year, however, many Partners and ISVs – including Integrity Data - have established themselves and product offerings in a way that support customers migrating to ERP in the cloud.

There are many organizations interested in the D365 Business Central (BC) cloud system. Their curiosity is piqued. They’re paying attention to the trends and, for lack of a better word, stability from Microsoft that will give them the confidence to move forward. It appears they understood where the future is, have an increased interest in Power Apps and Power BI reporting, and would be willing to migrate over. As with any change, people are nervous; especially with dollars, training, and systems on the line. Dynamics GP and D365 BC are two completely different systems; verbiage and functions in GP are different in BC requiring patience, learning of new processes and terminology that affect the bottom line. The financial cost to migrate is dependent on what GP version you are currently running. In one of the sessions Nicole, our Payroll Consultant, attended, a gentleman mentioned that it was going to cost him nearly $20,000 just to upgrade his SQL server for this migration, not including the cost of a Partner to help with data and implementation. The migration is a big undertaking and there is currently not a migration tool or path that doesn’t involve manual processes to move data more easily from GP. There were several sessions advertised on this topic that left each attendees with a mixed bag of inadequate tools to complete the task quickly and easily. While that might be the case in late 2019, you will see this landscape change very quickly in the next six months.

However, once you do take the step to migrate to the cloud, you won’t regret it. It has potential to help mainstream your systems in a huge way. Many customers who had migrated for both US offices and foreign offices and were pleased at how well everything is working together. That is exactly what you want to hear if you’re considering a move to Business Central. There are also financial incentives to move. We can expect to see this business line steadily growing.

THE USER GROUP COMMUNITY ROCKS

The Microsoft Dynamics community is a vibrant, family community where old friends reunite and new people get connected. Are you new to the Dynamics User Group Community and interested in more information? Check out their website or feel free to contact us for more information and to see the benefits of joining. Have you wondered if attending Summit is worth the financial investment? If you or someone you work with is a heavy user of a Dynamics ERP system or CRM, the sessions won’t leave you disappointed. The advanced networking opportunity is valuable, even if you’re not much of a people-person. Besides, you get to see us live and in person!

After attending the Dynamics User Group Summit, the final thought Integrity Data has is this: it’s a great time to be active in the Microsoft Dynamics community. We’ve been there for you and we’re still here – whether you continue to use Dynamics GP or are looking to migrate to D365 BC.

We hope you will join us.

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale
a tale that’s mighty fine,
when Rockton started with GP,
way back in 99…..

Is it stuck in your head yet?

I never realized what an infectious song it was until my entire world was submerged into our theme for the annual GPUG Summit. I would wake up humming it, tap it out on my desk while working, and sing it in the car driving home.  We really take our themes seriously here at Rockton Software Just wait until you see the video at the end of this post.

In case you haven’t figured it out yet, this years theme was Gilligan’s Island and we had a fabulous time celebrating our 20 Year Anniversary with you in true Rockton Island style!

No celebration is complete without cake and boy did we have a lot of cake to share at booth 807. It was so wonderful to have the opportunity to thank all our partners and customers for an amazing and successful 20 years.

Let me apologize if your piece of cake was missing a topping, our fearless leader might be to blame...

If you didn’t have a chance to come celebrate with us, here’s a few of the things we were excited to share this year:

What’s NEW at Rockton?

Rockton Pricing Management - it’s only the most flexible, powerful, multi-platform (yes, it works with any ERP!) pricing solution ever available.

We have also acquired a few new products you may have heard of, Olympic Systems Project Cost and their suite of solutions. Stay tuned for more info on that!

Oldies but Goodies

We are all about making your work simpler and easier  in Dynamics GP with our show stopping solutions.

Auditor - Track it. Audit it. Authorize it. Report it.

Dynamics GP Toolbox – 27 tools in one convenient package.

Dynamics Report Manager - Fast and easy reporting! Any report, any time, any place.

Omni Price - Manage nearly every pricing situation you can think of, and a bunch you haven’t.

SmartFill - Find information up to 83% faster with Rockton’s quick and easy Google-style data search tool.

Watching Alicia Weigel present at not one, but two jam packed sessions resulted in a few thousand steps. We gave out Rockton Remedy Kits to more and more people who were actively engaged in the chance to make their work simpler & easier  in Dynamics GP.

We also awarded our annual charitable software donation to the amazing folks at Donor Network of Arizona.  We hope your free copy of SmartFill helps with your mission to SAVE MORE LIVES!

And to end the week strong, we all rocked out in Disney Springs with a party at the House of Blues!

It was a great chance to unwind, dance, sing, and have some fun.

Next year, we hope to see y’all in Nashville. It will be year #14 for us as a Premier Sponsor!  We are already dreaming up what our next theme will be.

Without further ado, I present Rockton Island Style, a retrospective of Rockton Summit Shenanigans throughout the years

The Partner Support Series helps you discover and learn more about Microsoft Partner Network support resources. Written by Microsoft Partner Relationship Manager Rami Noujaim, each post addresses topics from your most common support-related questions, including technical support and Microsoft Partner Network program support, while sharing ongoing improvements we’re making to enhance your support experience.

As a Microsoft Partner Network member, you have access to yearly subscriptions, software, support, and benefits to help start, build, and grow your Microsoft business.

From the Partner Center dashboard, you can buy or renew your benefit offers including the Microsoft Action Pack subscription and the silver and gold competencies.

If you’re new to partnering with Microsoft, the first step is to join the Microsoft Partner Network. If you’re not already a member of the Partner Network, go to the membership page on the Partner Network site and select Join now when you’re ready to sign up.

After you’ve successfully joined the Partner Network, follow the instructions on the partner site (sign-in required) to buy your first Action Pack subscription. You can find more details about Action Pack here.

To renew a Microsoft Action Pack subscription in Partner Center

  5. Your order is confirmed. Select Close.

Note:  If Renew subscription isn’t displayed or is greyed out, you’re not yet eligible to renew your Action Pack subscription. We’ve changed our renewal window policy and you can renew your subscription only after it expires. For example, if your subscription expires on June 22, you can renew it starting June 23 and for 30 days after.

Your Action Pack subscription will renew automatically each year on this date. You can turn off automatic renewal at any time from your Purchased offers list; however, you won’t be able to turn automatic subscription renewal back on until you renew your subscription again.

Turn off automatic Action Pack subscription renewal

  1. Go to your Membership offers Select Microsoft Action Pack Subscription to view your subscription details.
  2. Select Turn off automatic renewal if you don’t want your Action Pack subscription to renew automatically each year.

Note:  If you turn off automatic subscription renewal, you won’t be able to turn it back on until you renew the subscription again. We’ll remind you to renew before your subscription expires.

Cancel your Action Pack subscription

  1. Go to your Membership offers. Select Microsoft Action Pack Subscription to view your subscription details.
  2. Select Cancel subscription. Follow the instructions for creating a support request.

    • Expand the Type of problem list and select Help with partner invoice, payment, or reconciliation file.
  4. Finish filling in the required information and then select Submit. The Partner Center Support team will contact you to help you cancel your subscription.

Dynamics 365 the Web Client has been deprecated

$

The legacy Web Client has been deprecated as of September 2019.

What does this mean?

Microsoft has set the 1st of October 2020 for when the Web Client will no longer be available. If you are still using the legacy Web Client, you will need to transition to the Unified Interface by this date.

Microsoft will still provide support, security and other critical updates to the Web Client until the 1st of October 2020.

There will be reminders and scheduling updates sent from Microsoft leading up to the cut off date.

It is now less than a year until the Web Client is deactivated, so make the change sooner than later!

The dates were referenced from: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/important-changes-coming
